5 Ways To Start Exercising After A Break

I’m sure you’ve noticed that there are days when you feel like you’re not in the mood of working out and suddenly, you lost all motivation to get back. Well, truth is – it happens to everyone! ALL THE TIME. Even professional athletics sometimes gets moody and skips practice.

Figuring out how to stick to a workout routine is tough. Let alone, going back to it after you’ve experienced a day without pain and just Netflix. But as I always say —

“Healthy living is a lifestyle, not a one-night date”

 

And so, here are practical tips that would help you make it easy to hit the reset button.

  1. The golden “5-minute rule”

Have you ever had a day wherein you were just thinking of your 3-hour routine and you felt tired already? The 5-minute rule is a cognitive behavioral therapy technique wherein you set a goal to do something for 5 minutes. If after 5 minutes and you still don’t have the energy, then you are free to stop.

 

  1. Easy-Peasy

The longer the break the harder it is to get back, avoid overwhelming yourself with your previous routine and sometimes, it helps to start with something easy. Small goals, every day.

If you’re used to doing 10 reps of push up, do 5. Regular jog for 2 hours, do 30 minutes. Do this every day and your body would start craving for more.

 

  1. Stick-O Schedule

Plan your workout and set a schedule. There is no “perfect time” in working out. Based on research, people who do scheduling and more productive and successful. Same as with working out, setting a schedule eliminates the possibility of skipping it or subconsciously forgetting it.

If you can’t trust yourself to schedule, let your calendar and alarm do this for you! Or better yet, contact your workout buddy!

 

  1. Be consistent for 21 days

Why 21? Based on research, it takes about 21 days to form a new habit or regain a habit that was lost – just like my 21-day programs!

By consistently working out in 21 days – chances are, you have already rebuilt the habit to your system. I recommend putting a calendar where you can “X” the number of days till you reach 21. Humans are visual creatures and small wins like that will motivate you to do better,
